Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is the assessment, management, and treatment of conditions related to the pelvic floor and its surrounding structures, including the muscles, tendons, joints, and ligaments of the low back, abdomen, pelvis, and hips.

The pelvic floor muscles sit within the pelvis as a hammock to support our organs. In addition, their functions include bladder and bowel control, sexual health, circulation, and, importantly, core strength.

Dysfunction may arise if our pelvic floor muscles are underactive, or overactive.

Graston Technique® (GT) is successful in effectively treating all soft tissue conditions, whether they are chronic, acute or post surgical. The non-invasive technique uses specially designed stainless steel instruments to help the clinician identify and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. GT allows a clinician to get as deep into the tissue as necessary to invoke change, yet be sensitive to patient pain and tolerance. As the instruments are moved over the affected area and come in contact with the adhesions, they help break up scar tissue and fascial restrictions. In time, this process will reduce or eliminate the adhered fibers, restoring range of motion and eliminating the associated pain. It will help transform your soft tissue injury into healthy functioning tissue.

Manual Lymph drainage is a gentle, relaxing, and pain free therapy, which assists lymph flow and aids in tissue drainage. The techniques mainly involve stretching, pumping, and torqueing the skin in specific directions, in order for the interstitial fluid to travel to the lymph nodes.

Manual lymph drainage is most commonly known to help treat and maintain lymphedema, where the lymphatic system has been damaged from birth or caused by trauma/surgery/radiotherapy, active malignancy, or chronic venous insufficiency. Combined Decongestive Therapy includes manual lymph drainage, compression, exercise, skin care, and education in self-management.

Acupuncture helps to relax tense muscles, increase healthy blood flow to an injury site, promote healing, and increase the release of our bodies’ own natural pain killers. When done properly, acupuncture should be pain free. Most people who are afraid of needles are surprised at how little they feel during a treatment, and are even more surprised with the level of pain relief and relaxation that can be achieved with this powerful therapy.
